You’re on LinkedIn, but Are You Using It Correctly?

LinkedIn is a great tool for networking, finding leads, and making connections — particularly for real estate agents.

But it’s also not an “if you build it, they will come” situation.

Though you might be on LinkedIn, that doesn’t automatically mean it’s going to up your sales or increase your revenues. In fact, it could even be a waste of resources if you’re not using the site properly.

Want to make sure you’re getting the most from your efforts? Here are some LinkedIn tips just for Realtors®:

  • Leverage your existing connections — all of them. LinkedIn lets you import your email contacts, so you can easily connect with anyone you’ve ever communicated with — lenders, past clients, your neighbors, etc. Use this feature to your advantage and add everyone you can on the network. You never know when one of those people might know someone who’s on the market for a home.
  • Connect with agents in other cities or metros. Reach out and connect with Realtors® in other cities — particularly major ones in your state. Job transfers and in-state moves are pretty common, and if those agents have a client who’s headed your way, they might just send them your info.
  • Use LinkedIn Pulse. Pulse is basically your own personal LinkedIn blog, and it’s a great way to show off your expertise and knowledge. Write about your city and local market, highlight upcoming events and open houses, or even just repost the blogs from your website. All of these will keep you top of mind with your connections, and they’ll position you as an expert in your field.
  • Optimize your profile. Don’t skimp on the details when creating your profile. Add a professional headshot, fill out your work history, and add links to your website, awards, publications, and more. Pay especially close attention to your headline, and be sure to include your city or neighborhood of focus to bring in more leads (i.e., Kansas City Real Estate Agent).
  • Create a page for your company. If you have your own company, franchise, or office, make sure it has its own unique LinkedIn page as well. You can add details like your company website, your employees/other agents, photos, office hours and more. Make sure to use a professional designer when creating your banner photo, too. The more professional your profile can look, the better.
